Day 3 of the BC Lions Training Camp kicked off today in Kamloops, BC. With just one practice slated for mid afternoon, the team hit the field well rested…and vocal. After spending three full days together, the players are certainly getting more comfortable together, chattering and playfully ribbing one another on the sidelines.
The team is looking like a solid, cohesive unit on the field as well. The Leos got in a solid two hours of practice today with head coach Mike Benevides running the boys though team play and skelly with a mix of special team drills.
Of Note for Day 3:
Defense: Cord Parks had several pass breakups during team play today and impressed with his speed during no huddle, while Dustin Harris is developing strongly at the half back position and improving his awareness of calls. John Hardy-Tuliau really stood out among the rookie class and proved himself a solid prospect at safety with a strong ability to read the play.
Offense:
Stefan Logan continued his strong showing from Day 2 with a 40-yard run for a sure touchdown in team play, and Travis Partridge is proving his worth, breaking through the defense on a rushing play during inside drills. “He’s learning and he’s going to get it, and he doesn’t make the same mistake twice,” said offensive coordinator Khari Jones on his rookie QB.
John Beck:
The first-year Lion with the lighting-fast release is settling in nicely in to the CFL. He’s looking more comfortable in team reps.
Quotes of Note:
John Beck on Travis Lulay and Kevin Glenn: “The greatest thing is to have Travis and Kevin here. I can instantly bounce everything off of them and I’m constantly talking to them.”
Beck on the challenges from NFL to CFL: “Some of the things you can do with having 12 people on the field, both offensively and defensively…and remembering that there’s less downs.”
Watching:
Jarrell Root (foot) Guillame Bourassa (quad), Alexander Fox (hammie), and Hunter Steward (knee) did not participate today.
