Week 2. Grind week…they don’t call it that for nothing. With the festivities of Fan Fest behind us and the first week over, the Lions are getting down to the quintessence of camp. The drills are harder, the days are longer, and the fatigue is deep.
That being said, it is also the time when playmakers start to shine, rookies come alive and the guys battle hard for a chance to wear the orange and black.
Of Note for Day 9:
The O-Line Cometh:
With several injuries sidelining key starters throughout camp, it’s no small task what offensive line coach Dan Dorazio has charged his remaining men with, and they are stepping up in a big way.
The big boys have had to work overtime to combat the heavy defence with Cam Thorn, R.J. Dill, and Andre Ramsey playing the majority of snaps in the team and no-huddle periods and making key blocks, opening routes for the running backs. Said Dorazio, “I thought the line put some money in the bank today.”
An Embarrassment of Riches:
So you have a phenomenal running back in Andrew Harris, add the speed and agility of Stefan Logan and you have yourself the Two-Headed Monster. Logan was everywhere today, breaking the defense and finding open pockets on almost every carry, and running the ball in for a sure touchdown on a John Beck pass in the team periods.
Whitman Tomusiak continues to impress with his development and speed. The receiver made several key snags today, nabbing a high pass from a scrambling Travis Partridge, and capped off the practice with a diving catch into the endzone to nab a long toss that looked surely out of reach. “He’s learning how to be a receiver and I continue to see positive things from him,” said offensive coordinator Khari Jones.
Not to be outdone, Bryan Burnham had the catch of the day, leaping up to grab a John Beck pass in triple coverage in the endzone.
The Best Offence…:
Both Dante Marsh and Josh Johnson had a strong showings for the defence today, with each notching a pick during no-huddle. Johnson kept constant pressure at the nickleback position, with some great pass breakups in two of the three no-huddle periods. Jemarlous Moten also had several key pass breakups in the team periods.
Chris Wilson was pivotal for the d-line today, impressing with his speed and strength off the snap in the one-on-one period and twice shedding his blocks to rush the QB in a team period. On the right side of the line, Chris Olson also stepped it up for the defence, showing his quick feet and agility in the one-on-one period, beating his man and maneuvering around the blocks.
