Lions Make Their Mark

Kadie Smith

What a way to come back.

With a decided 41-5 stomping of the Montreal Alouettes Friday night at BC Place, the BC Lions have somewhat rid themselves of the question mark hanging over their heads, but they’re not quite there yet. Not in their eyes, at least.

After the Als handed the Leos a crushing loss in Week 2, there were big questions heading into the rematch. Much as they did last week against the Riders, the Leos came angry, fired up and damn ready to play. The goal: no more questions.

Records and First Moves:

What Andrew Harris did in Week 3, Emmanuel Arceneaux did this time around. In his second game back from injury, the wide receiver left no one guessing about whether or not he was ready to go. #84 rumbled to the endzone a staggering three times.

Ryan Phillips made good on his statement earlier this week that the defence needed to help the offence score points. The D was so dominant in fact that the Als didn’t record a passing yard until just over 12 minutes into the second quarter. The Lions, on the other hand, had racked up 100+ by that point.

The Lions defence held the Als to just 117 total yards of offence on the night.

It was a night of firsts for the Leos, with several players nabbing new ink next to their names.

Travis Partridge made a significant mark on the stats sheet, recording his first-ever pro TD, rushing the ball in from the 1-yard line. The hulking pivot has proved very effective for the Leos on short-yardage plays.

Not to be outdone, another new-Lion, John Beck, found his way to the end zone as well, nabbing his first TD pass at home with a 27-yard sling early in the fourth to none other than Arceneaux himself. The ex-NFLer would follow that up just two minutes later with a 13-yard screen pass to Harris for another touchdown.

Alex Bazzie recorded his first pro sack, a stat that the Leos are looking to improve upon. The Mashall product with the lighting speedoff the snap has been a big part of the defence for the Lions this season.

The Lions have a short week back and will look to ride the momentum of the win when they take on the Bombers at BC Place Friday night who are coming off a tough 26-3 loss to the Eskimos.
