The BC Lions Football Club announced today that non-import linebacker Akwasi Antwi and receiver Stephen Adekolu have signed contracts with the team.
Antwi was originally taken in the fourth-round of the 2011 CFL Draft (26th overall) by the Calgary Stampeders. The Mount Allison grad appeared in 32 games over two seasons for the Stamps recording 28 special teams stops and six defensive tackles. He was traded to the Toronto Argonauts last April and released by the Argos in late July.
Adekolu comes to the Leos after wrapping up a notable four-year career at Bishop’s University where he notched 998 receiving yards on 70 receptions over 28 appearances for the Gaiters. His best numbers came last year as the rangy receiver picked up 505 yards on 25 catches with six majors.
“Akwasi gives us a big body on special teams who can also fill a reserve role on defence,” said head coach Mike Benevides. “Stephen is a big target for quarterbacks who has great size and is a physical presence. He will definetly compete for a spot in camp.”
