He faced the very best the CFL had to offer all season and enjoyed a record-setting year on the field. Now BC Lions linebacker Solomon Elimimian will take on Toronto’s Ricky Ray after becoming the first defensive player since 1992 to ever be selected as the Most Outstanding Player in his division.

Elimimian was also selected to represent the West in the Most Outstanding Defensive Player category after roaring through the 2014 regular season campaign and setting a new league standard with 143 defensive tackles.

The Most Outstanding Player awards, which include six categories, are voted on by 68 members of the Football Reporters of Canada and head coaches from across the league.

“I am both honoured and humbled by today’s announcement and it goes without saying that individual award nominations are not possible without the support of great coaches and teammates,” said Elimimian. ”These accolades hold special meaning because of the Lions who have earned them before such as Brent Johnson, Cam Wake, Travis Lulay andGeroy Simon, but there is only one piece of hardware that I am truly interested in winning and that’s the Grey Cup.”

The Lions continue preparations for their game this week with a closed practice at BC Place this morning. Media availability will take place at BC Place from 11:40 am to 12:10 pm and members of the media are asked to enter the stadium through the east entrance at 11:40 am.

The 2014 CFL Awards will be handed out on Thursday, November 27 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver. Tickets for the show are available at ticketmaster.ca.

The Lions face the Montreal Alouettes in the Eastern Division Semi-Final on Sunday, November 16 at 10:00 am PT (TSN1040, TSNHD).
