The BC Lions Football Club announced this morning that veteran fullback Rolly Lumbala has signed a contract extension through the 2016 season.
Lumbala appeared in all 18 regular season games last season making it four consecutive years the Idaho grad has not missed a start. The seven-year vet was originally selected by the Lions in the second round of the 2008 CFL Draft (ninth overall) and has now logged 117 career games along with nine playoff appearances and a Grey Cup title in 2011.
Lumbala, who was set to become a free agent in February, enjoyed another effective campaign on offence and special teams in 2014. Continuing his role as an highly-regarded pass and run blocker, he also notched a career-high of 125 yards on 14 receptions while contributing eight special teams tackles.
A leader both on and off the field as well as a significant contributor to many of the club’s community endeavors, Lumbala was the Lions nominee as Most Outstanding Canadian last season.
