Ackie leaps to new Broad Jump Record
Sitting in the shadows of events such as the Bench Press and 40-Yard Dash, which displays jut brute power and speed, is the Broad Jump which tests a prospect’s athleticism and agility. Wilfrid Laurier’s Chris Ackie leaped to a new Combine record, posting a jump of 10’11.50”. Doing so, beat the previous record holder which was Brian Nugent (York) who leapt 10’10.50” back in 2002.
Durant Lifts His Way Into Receiver Record
The Bench Press is traditionally reserved for the lineman and linebackers who have set the record pretty high at 47 (Michael Knill). That said, the ‘skill position’ players have held their own in recent years. Simon Fraser’s Lemar Durant powered his way to 26 reps on Saturday which sets a record for receivers at the Combine, passing Alexander Fox who put up 24 in 2014.
New 40-Yard Dash Record … Sort of.
The aforementioned performance by Tevaughn Campbell clocked in at 4.36 which set a new record for fastest electronic time. It is important to note that prior to 2011, the CFL published a player’s lowest hand held time. Off a technicality, Campbell moves into fourth all-time but CFL.ca Insider Justin Dunk said that he wouldn’t be surprised if Campbell had captured the all-time hand held time as well – a true testament to the speed of the Regina product.
Bishop’s receiver Steven Turner still holds the overall record with 4.31, posted in 2010. Campbell overcame a record set just an hour earlier by Shaquille Murray-Lawrence.
Yantz Reps the Pivots
Jordan Yantz, out of Manitoba, put up a new record for quarterbacks when testing resumed on Sunday. The Bisons gunslinger put up 21 reps which is the most by a signal-caller at the Combine.
Archambalt Dominates the Bench
The spotlight on the first day of testing was placed squarely on Montreal linebacker Byron Archambault who lifted to 41 reps. The Caribans defender set a new record for linebackers at the Combine and moved into second place all-time behind Michael Knill who had 47 in 2011.
