BCLions.com Staff

The BC Lions announced today the signing of three international defenders including linebacker Cody Acker along with defensive backs Derrick Morgan and Jeremiah Johnson. All three prospects originally hail from Maryland and were offered contracts following the Lions’ free agent camp in Washington, D.C. last month.

Acker attended Morgan State University and comes to the Leos after wrapping up a notable four-year colligate career in 2014. The athletic and mobile linebacker tallied 165 solo tackles over 45 appearances, 21 of which were for a loss.

Morgan began his NCAA career at the University of Texas-El Paso where he appeared in 16 games over two seasons tallying 11 tackles. Following his transfer to Stony Brook, the Maryland native and hard-hitting defensive back logged 11 games as a senior in 2013 racking-up 27 solo stops and an interception.

Johnson appeared in 36 games over four years at the University of Maryland recording 71 solo tackles and an interception.  His most productive year came as a senior in 2014 as he recorded 32 stops over 13 games.

All three newcomers will make their debut two weeks from today as first-year Lions hit the field in Kamloops for a mini-camp beginning on Thursday, May 28.

The Lions also announced they have released fullback Akwasi Antwi and defensive back Matt McGarva.
