With just a little more than two weeks separating the Lions from 2015 Training Camp, members of the team’s player personnel department including Wally Buono, Neil McEvoy and Geroy Simon will be in Seattle, Washington this weekend for their final free agent camp of the offseason.
“It’s been a great week for the club with the quality of players we added through the CFL Draft on Tuesdayand we’re looking forward to seeing some very talented players in Seattle on Sunday,” said Lions VP of football operations and GM Wally Buono.
In addition to a number of potential training camp candidates, the Lions will get an up-close look at no fewer than five players currently on their negotiation list including former Boise State quarterback Grant Hedrick in addition to receiver Rickey Glavin out of Washington State.
“Past camps in Portland and Seattle have proven to be lucrative for us and I expect nothing less on Sunday,” added Buono.
The club will occupy the field at Rainier Beach High School which has its own Lions’ connection with the mother of defensive back Ryan Phillips recently retiring as the school’s longtime girl’s softball coach. Phillips himself earned a training camp invite a decade ago following his own successful free agent camp audition in Portland, Oregon.
Last year, the club inked receiver Bryan Burnham and linebacker Alex Hoffman-Ellis following impressive showings in Seattle.
