Training Camp Report: Day 2

Michiko Araki

Day 2 of the 2015 Training Camp kicked off with a 8:30am practice lasting two and a half hours under grey skies in Kamloops.

The early part of the morning session focused on fundamentals and technique, and gradually transitioned into 1-on-1 and team play. At 11:00am, the team took a break for lunch before hitting the field at 3:45pm for the afternoon session.

Strong, gusty winds hit the field in the afternoon but it was timely as the practice was a quick hour of walk-throughs. After the short practice, the players hit the pool to recover and rest after a long day.

During the morning session, several offensive and defensive lineman stood out on the field today:

Offensive Line:

With the center position up for grabs this year, Jon Estes and Jason Foster have been battling for the number one spot on the depth chart. Both players have been steady on their feet and blocking very well during the 1-on-1 sessions, while Josh Aladenoye has also had a good camp so far, playing both tackle positions.

Defensive Line:

There were several standouts on the defensive line today, including Tim Jackson, who has been very consistent at camp and has had great positioning during blocking drills and 1-on-1 sessions. Likewise, David Menard has been quick to burst off the line and has been an excellent bull rusher during 1-on-1s, while fellow defensive end Jabar Westerman has done a great job containing the offensive tackles during pass plays.

2015 Draft picks Ese Mrabure-Ajufo and Maxx Forde have also showed excellent athleticism during camp and will look to make an impression on the veterans and coaches.

Quotes of note:

Defensive line coach, Robin Ross: “I’ve been really happy with the inside players. We’ve got good competition going on.”
