Playoff Bound

It was a wild ride in October and the BC Lions are looking to make it a November to remember as they have officially qualified for the CFL postseason for a 19thconsecutive year.

The Leos come off a hard-fought road victory over the Toronto Argonauts on Friday night and with today’s win by the Edmonton Eskimos over the Montreal Alouettes, have laid claim to the sixth and final CFL playoff spot.

Edmonton’s win also locked up first place in the West for the Green and Gold, so the Lions will conclude their regular season schedule with a 4:00 pm tilt versus the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday, November 7 at BC Place presented by Nissan and then travel to Calgary on Sunday, November 15 for the Western Semi-Final.

The Lions’ current playoff run began in 1997 and ties Montreal for the second-longest in CFL history behind Edmonton’s 34 consecutive playoff appearances between 1972 and 2005, but now becomes the league’s longest active streak.

British Columbia’s most successful professional sports organization has earned seven first-place finishes in that time, more than any other club, along with eight third-place finishes and four crossover berths. Interestingly, the Lions have not finished the regular season in second place at any time during the past 19 years.

The club has made 10 trips to the divisional final game since 1997 including nine times in the West and collected three Grey Cup titles along the way. Only Montreal has more divisional championship appearances (14) in that time.
