Orange Shirt Day began in 2013 to commemorate the residential experience, to witness and honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families and to commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation, as well as remind us all that “Every Child Matters”. The establishment of National Truth & Reconciliation comes as Canadians reflect on the confirmations of unmarked graves at residential school sites across the country, including 215 children buried at the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School.
The BC Lions, along with our partners, will continue to create awareness around National Day for Truth & Reconciliation and promote this important message through our Orange Shirt Day game on September 30th against the Ottawa Redblacks.
