A pair of franchise icons are set to be enshrined next month. The BC Lions are excited to announce that Ryan Phillips and Travis Lulay will be added to the club’s Wall of Fame on Saturday, September 12.
The ceremony takes place during the Lions’ home battle with the Montreal Alouettes.
Now in his 19th season with the organization, Phillips joined the Lions in 2005 and quickly established himself as one of the CFL’s premier defensive backs.
“I’m thankful and blessed to be recognized with these other great people within this organization. I appreciate Amar Doman, David Braley, Wally Buono and all the coaches and teammates who have helped me as a player and man,” said Phillips.
“The support system along the way from my family, friends and the best fans in the CFL has been nothing short of amazing. Thank you!”
A four-time All-CFL ((2007, 2010, 2012-13) and five-time West Division All-CFL selection (2007, 2010, 2012-13, 2015) and two-time Grey Cup champion (2006, 2011) as a player, the Seattle native entered 2026 in fifth on the Lions’ all-time list with 212 games played (2005-16), remained the club’s leader with 817 interception return yards, had a club-best six defensive touchdowns and five interception return touchdowns, while his 47 takeaways through the air remain second behind fellow Wall of Fame inductee Larry Crawford.
His 56 total takeaways are good for third-best in club history, while he remains fifth amongst all-time Lions with 490 defensive tackles.
The 2007 season saw Phillips tie a club record with 12 interceptions and rack up a single-season club record 299 interception return yards. Following an impressive outing at the club’s free agent camp in his hometown of Portland, Lulay was signed by the Lions in May 2009 and went on to play ten seasons for the squad, amassing a regular season record of 48-33.
Lulay earned All-CFL in 2011, was a two-time West Division All-CFL selection (2011, 2012) and remains third on the Lions’ all-time list in the following categories: passing yards (21,352), completions (1,658) and touchdown passes (127).
Lulay also recorded 21 games of 300 or more passing yards, good for fourth all-time with the club after Nathan Rourke passed him this season.
He made history in 2011, becoming the first quarterback in franchise history to win a Grey Cup and CFL Most Outstanding Player in the same season. He threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns in the 99th Grey Cup victory over Winnipeg.
“I feel very fortunate to have spent my entire CFL career as a BC Lion,” said Lulay.
“To be recognized by the organization as a member of the Wall of Fame, alongside so many Lions greats, is a tremendous honour.”
